How To Set A Shower Pan

2026-06-30

Setting a shower pan correctly begins with a level subfloor, an accurately positioned drain, and verified installation dimensions. Before work starts, confirm the pan size, waste outlet position, wall thickness, threshold height, and shower enclosure compatibility.

Prepare The Base And Drain

Clean and level the subfloor, then dry-fit the shower pan to check for gaps, rocking, or drain misalignment. The 2024 International Residential Code requires finished shower floors to slope toward the drain by 2 to 4 percent. It also requires the drain flange to form a watertight connection with the shower lining.

Apply the support material recommended for the pan structure. Lower the unit into place without twisting the waste connection, then check each edge with a level while preserving the built-in drainage slope. Fasteners must remain outside the protected waterproof area.

Seal And Test The Shower Pan

Connect the waste fitting, seal the wall junctions, and integrate the pan flange with the waterproof membrane. The 2024 International Plumbing Code requires a completed shower liner to hold at least 51 mm of water for no less than 15 minutes without visible leakage.

Before installing tiles or wall panels, check:

  • Drainage speed and standing water

  • Pan stability under distributed weight

  • Drain and flange sealing

  • Waterproof membrane continuity

  • Alignment with the Shower Mixer and enclosure

EN 14527:2016+A1:2018 covers cleanability, durability, testing, and conformity assessment for domestic shower trays. CSA B45.5 and IAPMO Z124 specify material, construction, performance, testing, and marking requirements for plastic shower bases.

OEM ODM And Bulk Sourcing

A manufacturer can review drawings, develop compatible components, approve samples, and control assembly and inspection directly. A trader normally has less control over tooling, installation dimensions, and repeat-order consistency.

A project sourcing checklist should confirm pan dimensions, drain standard, load requirements, finish, packaging, inspection criteria, spare parts, and export compliance.

TOPSHINE integrates product development, assembly, quality inspection, and OEM or ODM support for Shower Mixers, columns, heads, and bathroom accessories. Its 16,000-square-meter production base helps coordinate dimensions, finishes, and bulk supply from sample approval through shipment.
